April 2017 – October 2018, Malaysia

Social assessment by ENVIRO-DEV in pre-feasibility study of renewable energy project site alternatives in two areas in Sabah. Some areas have good quality forest and are inhabited by indigenous people. Livelihoods are dependent on small-scale agriculture, swidden systems and forest-water resources.

October 2015 –  2019, Environmental Liability in Georgia

2017. On-going work on Environmental Liability (EL) in Georgia. Work is being done in close collaboration with the MENRP. At present the team is outlining Tip sheets and check lists for biodiversity baselines and monitoring, technical inspection and monitoring, economic valuation of environment damage (as per EU Directive on EL) covering construction and operation phases. Capacity building in government institutions and relevant stakeholders will begin in 2018. Work led by ENVIRO-DEV with specific inputs from Sweco-Trondheim, Hernes Projektering, Norsk Energi and Vista Analyse, and the project is managed by ICH.

  

October 2017, South Africa

Dhillion of ENVIRO-DEV Designed an International course on Environmental Compliance in Renewable Energy Projects in South Africa. Dhillion and Hernes (core expert) provided training in the course with other international experts. Included participants from Sudan, Uganda, Zambia and South Africa.

  

October 2017, Vietnam, Ca River

Completion and Acceptance of ESIA, ESMP and Safeguard plans by MIGA (World Bank Group) for a transboundary Hydropower Project in Ca River Basin, Vietnam. From ENVIRO-DEV: Team Leader Dhillion with core experts Granfelt, Bufi, Shah and assistant Mui, with input from National Consultants. Disclosure is planned.

   

October 2017, Vietnam, Nam Mo River

October 2017, Indonesia

In October 2017 the Sustainable Infrastructure Assistant Programme – Sub-project 5 (SIAP5) was completed and outputs are now available. A Communication Package (CP) as a knowledge product (toolkit) was prepared by the SIAP5 consultant team (led by: Team Leader & Community Development Expert Dhillion; Community Development and IP Expert Granfelt). Other outputs include a Communication Strategy and Participation Plan (CSPP) and based on a Stakeholder Analysis. Field work was done in Java and Kalimantan. The CP is a practical toolkit and includes a flyer template on for information, a video, Power-points, and  six thematic Tip Sheets on: (1) Communication and Participation; (2) Land Acquisition and Resettlement (LAR); (3) Livelihoods and Environment; (4) Road HSE; (5) Indigenous People; and (6) Gender.

 

September 2017, Norway

Capacity building lectures and cases on Sustainable Hydropower Projects and Development: essentials of the human-environment components. Topics include ESIA/SIA and management processes, Informed Communication and Participation. Sustainability Protocol. Benefit sharing and CSR, and methods/tools.
